harrys mad
The arrival of a gregarious and loquacious (very talkative) talking gray African parrot pleasantly ruffles the placid routine of the Holdsworth family. Madison, or Mad as his new owner, Harry, calls him, quickly becomes a chatty, checker-playing companion for the young boy. Life for Mad and Harry is thoroughly enjoyable until a burglar abducts the astounded bird during a robbery and hustles him to an unsavory part of London.

And let me play among the stars…

Maybe I’ll just go to the Milpitas Library’s program for school-age kids:

Back to the Moon and Beyond
Thursday, May 29, 3:30 pm
Milpitas Library Community Room
*Build a model orbiter for the moon. Collect lunar lava rocks like the astronauts and join the Space Exploration Readers Theater.

AND try these great books:

Little Moon Dog plays with the mischievous fairies who come to tour the moon, but he later realizes that the Man in the Moon is his true friend.

Molly Moon’s hypnotic eyes give her the power to stop the world and travel through time. Now Molly makes a stunning new discovery – she’s a mind reader! But can her incredible talents help to rescue her lost twin from future? And will Molly be a match for the maniacal Princess Fang and her crazy mind machine?

Once upon a time there lived a boy named Sue…

Do you have something to say?

How about writing a poem or two?

Or how about writing the story of you?

Here’s a few fun book to get you started:

How to Write Your Life Story (age 9-12)
Ralph Fletcher
In addition to this title, Fletcher has written numerous books to help kids develop as authors, including A Writer’s Notebook: Unlocking the Writer Within You; Boy Writers: Reclaiming Their Voices; and Poetry Matters: Writing a Poem from the Inside Out.

When Max cuts out words from magazines and newspapers, collecting them the way his brothers collect stamps and coins, they all learn about words, sentences, and storytelling.

Thanks to I.N.K. for this information from Loreen Leedy!
